8U Boys / GirlsThe AYSO 8U program is
a fun, introductory soccer program for young players, focusing on skill development and a positive learning environment. It features short, structured practices and games on smaller fields with simplified rules, emphasizing maximum ball touches and team play.
- Focus on Fun and Learning: - The program prioritizes a positive and engaging experience for young players, emphasizing skill development and team play in a supportive environment.
- Short Practices: - Practices are typically 45-60 minutes, once a week, allowing for efficient learning and skill building.
- Equipment: Players need soccer cleats, shin guards, and a size 4 soccer ball.
- Games on Small Fields: - Games are played on smaller fields (25-35 yards long, 15-25 yards wide) with small goals (4' x 6') to maximize player involvement and ball touches.
- Simplified Rules: - The game is played with a 4 vs. 4 format, no goalkeepers, and no penalty area, focusing on basic soccer skills and teamwork.
- Emphasis on Maximum Ball Touches: - The program encourages players to have frequent contact with the ball to develop their skills and improve their understanding of the game.
- Restart After Ball Goes Out of Bounds: - The restart after the ball goes out of bounds is a "kick-in," allowing players to restart play from the touchline with a kick to a teammate.
- No Post-Season: - The 8U program typically does not include a post-season tournament or playoffs.
- Uniforms: - Players are provided with a uniform (jersey, shorts, socks), but they need to provide their own soccer cleats, shin guards, and a size 3 soccer ball.
- All-Stars: - AYSO may offer an All-Stars program for players in 8U and other age groups who demonstrate exceptional skill, effort, and commitment.
